Abstract: The Belle II experiment, currently under construction at the KEK laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan, is the next generation of the highly successful B-factories. A substantial upgrade of both the Belle detector and the KEKB accelerator represent an essentially new experiment. Full physics running will start in early 2019 with a goal of collecting 50 times more data than the first generation B-factories. Belle II is uniquely positioned to make detailed studies of exotic hadron states, the so-called XYZ states, that represent the emergence of a new category within quantum chromodynamics. This talk will review some recent results in hadron spectroscopy from Belle and present the capability of Belle II to explore both conventional and exotic quarkonium physics.
