Performance of charged hadron identification with early Belle II data

Abstract Particle identification is a crucial aspect of the Belle II experiment, critically determining the sensitivity of many analyses of its physics program. After recalling the sources of experimental information that are relevant for the task, we describe the implementation of the different strategies that are aimed at identifying charged hadrons (pions, kaons, and protons) and the measurement of their performance, based on high purity control samples. This work is based on the data collected between the years 2019 and 2022, at a center of mass energy corresponding or near to the mass of the Y(4S) resonance, with an integrated luminosity of 426 fb-1.
