Abstract The Belle II experiment is a substantial upgrade of both the Belle detector and the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ accelerator currently operating at the KEK laboratory in Japan. It is uniquely capable to search for exotic multiquark bound states and probe the fundamentals of QCD. An unprecedented dataset was collected above the $\Upsilon(4S)$ energy to study the region around $\sqrt{s} = 10.75$ GeV, where enhanced transition rates to lighter bottomonia suggest the existence of a new exotic bound state.
